Mark Tulga has enjoyed teaching private flute, clarinet & saxophone lessons for many years and watching his students grow into better musicians and amazing people.  Mark loves sharing his music with others as well as having the opportunity to observe how music has had a powerful, long lasting and positive affect on the lives of his students.

Mark received his bachelor of music degree while attending CSU Sacramento and CSU Northridge, and a master's degree in jazz and contemporary media from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York. After graduation, Mark directed the jazz band and taught jazz studies courses at American River College, Contra Costa College and UC Davis. In 1988 Mark joined the San Juan Unified School district and taught instrumental music at the high school, middle school, and elementary level. During that time he taught at Rio Americano HS, Bella Vista HS and Del Campo HS, and retired after teaching 17 years at Carnegie middle school. In 2018-19 he directed the 3pm jazz ensemble and jazz combo at CSUS and the Western Slopes middle school honor band. Mark is currently writing and recording his own music and works as a therapeutic musician at Sutter Medical Center in Roseville and continues to serve as an adjudicator and clinician. Mark enjoys playing flute, clarinet and saxophone in various local musical groups including the Sacramento Jazz Orchestra, stage orchestras for Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga and Johnny Mathis, and the orchestra for Broadway Sacramento at Music Circus.
