Profile
Brass instructor and Sacramento native, Jared began playing
trumpet and studying brass technique in the 5th grade and by
the 8th grade, Jared was a paid professional musician
performing in pit orchestras for different musical theater
companies in the Sacramento and Davis areas. Jared performs
regularly with the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society in jazz
festivals throughout the West Coast.

 

Education
Jared earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies (Cum Laude) from Sacramento State University (CSUS) and is currently undertaking his Masters Degree in Music Performance with jazz emphasis, also at CSUS. Since high school Jared has had the opportunity to receive instruction from world-class arrangers and composers Johan de Meij, Jan Van der Roost, Robert W. Smith, Jim Cullum, Bob Curnow, Jim Widner, and Gordon Goodwin.

 

Influences
Other world class artists Jared has had the opportunity to learn from and perform with include Gary Foster, Mel Martin, Christian McBride, Conrad Herwig, Dave Brubeck, Mark Elf, Carl Allen,
Wycliffe Gordon, Louie Bellson, Ndugu Chancler, 'Fast" Eddie Erickson, and other talented musicians and educators.

 

Teaching and Awards

Jared is highly passionate about teaching, music, jazz, brass instruments, and sharing his musical knowledge. As a leader, he has directed and performed with student ensembles and professional community ensembles. Representing American River College in CSUS' Youth Traditional Jazz Band Festival, his ensemble earned recognition as the Top College Group. The individual band members received Best Trombone; Drums, Bass/Tuba and Trumpet awards.
Jared was also the recipient of the Kenton O. Smith Traditional Jazz Scholarship for Most Outstanding College Musician (2011 and 2013).

 

Lessons
Jared blum offers lessons on trumpet/cornet/flugel horn, trombone, baritone and tuba, and music/jazz theory and improvisation.

All ages and all levels of abilities (beginning to advanced)

 

Fees
The lesson fee is a flat rate of $160.00 per month based on four 30 minute lessons per month, or 48 lessons per year, to be paid on the first lesson day of each month. Also offered is a flat rate of $240.00 per month based on four 1 hour lessons per month for older students. No refunds will be given. Please make checks payable to: Jared Blum.

 

Materials
In addition to the regular lesson fees, it will be necessary for students to purchase lesson materials. All items are available at Tague Band Instrument Service, including: valve oil, slide grease, and other brass accessories necessary to 'self-maintain' your brass instrument. It is also highly recommended that each student purchase a music stand.
